Xin chao! I'm Duong.
I love turning words into visuals. My works often take inspiration from the Vietnamese language or as simply as things that surround me — be it animate or inanimate.

Co Ca Co La

She who sings and she who screams. Literal translation in Vietnamese.

Cap Ke

In old Sino-Vietnamese, 'cap ke' is a word used to describe a girl who is of marriageable age. However, with slightly different intonations, 'cap ke' can also mean a pair of chickens. And boiled chicken is also a staple in traditional wedding ceremonies!

Chom Chom Chia

A homophone pun. 'Chom chia' means 'to steal', but if we take out the 'chia' and double the 'chom', 'chom chom' becomes 'rambutan'.

hynoaio

A Sino-Vietnamese phrase that describes stages of human emotion that has once been experienced in a lifetime.
Or in English, Joy - Anger - Love - Sadness.

Thanh Long

'Thanh long' means 'dragon fruit' in Vietnamese. With a hat put above the 'O', it becomes 'hairy dragon fruit'.

falsies

Average experience of a person who is nearsighted and wears lash extensions.

Mac Ca Chan

In Vietnamese, 'mat ca chan' means 'ankle', and if you make a tiny typo of 'mac ca chan' it can subtly indicate 'having a fish stuck in your leg'.

Grandparents Woke Up And Chose Violence

On Sundays my grandparents bathe their kitchenware.

Adrift

Hair Pulled, Eyes Scooped
