'her.' is the artist name of Patcharaporn Kwansangwan, an independent artist based in Thailand. She has long dreamed of writing and illustrating her own picture book as a way to narrate her story. She also does fine art painting and installation art and is always interested in doing animation too.
Her work revolves around analogue techniques, including hand painting, mixed-media art, and paper collage.A distinctive feature of her work is the symbolic use of light to represent ‘hope,’ often arranged as a setting for miniature theatre and then photographed to create the final images.
This year, she will release her first picture book; therefore, her portfolio will almost entirely comprise the artwork from the picture book 'Where's a Home?'.
Hi, I’m ‘her.’ from Thailand.
My work started from handed crafts. The main materials that I like to use are paper (paper-embroidery) and pressed nature materials such as flowers, leaves, weeds, soil, shells or other things that I find and feel interested. Certainly that I can’t keep only the wilted ones on the ground so I grow some of them by myself for harvesting and appreciating the value of every piece I’ve kept instead.
Furthermore, I also love to play with the light or sunshine because I think everything will be more apparent than normal when the light shines through it.. it means like ‘hope’ for me, too. When flowers dry, their fibers will be shown more and if you light through them, you’ll see the fibers clearly. So, I love to design my works and my products to have functionality that light can shine through.
And the last thing, all my flowers (my works) will disintegrate one day. I don’t know exactly when, maybe in 6 months or a year or maybe many years, depending on the place and how they are kept. Because I don’t use the resin method, so the air still can touch them. But for me, it isn’t the bad thing at all. I think it’s just like one real truth of life that everything will disintegrate in the end. And it’s a beautiful way to see them change day by day which make me feel like .. they’re still alive by my side.
So.. let’s walk together for a while.
Nice to meet you all.

And in some day, maybe not today.
But in one day, ..you’ll find and will be found in the same time.’ :)

‘The Ocean of life’ — Zine by her.
This the real preserved grass in my own journal that I’ve made 6-7 years ago. It’s the inspiration of ‘The ocean of life’ first zine of my life (that now available in my shop too). This artwork is made from real preserved grass that can pop up when we open the book as you see in this picture. And if you can see, on the paper i’ve written many words. They’re about some moment that I feel happy and sad. So I pick this idea to be the main concept of Zine ‘The ocean of life’ too.
This Zine made by tracing paper and it has the pop-up picture of my artwork in the middle page. Some pages I’ve written many contents to share my experiences and give many pages of plain paper to be the ‘blank journal’ for everyone who want to write too. And that is all, when you write something in wherever or which paper, you will see everything merge together. I think it doesn’t different from our memories. When time goes by, the thing that we felt deeply or taught that we can’t move on in our past. Now They are gone. Nothing is important. They’re just becoming to some part of our life.
‘..because everything we’ve met
even happiness or sadness,
It’ll become a little piece
of the ocean of life.’ 🤍

‘The old man and the sea’ — Artwork by her.
‘He always thought of the sea as la mar which is what people call her in Spanish when they love her. Sometimes those who love her say bad things of her but they are always said as though she were a woman. Some of the younger fishermen, those who used buoys as floats for their lines and had motorboats, bought when the shark livers had brought much money, spoke of her as el mar which is masculine. They spoke of her as a contestant or a place or even an enemy. But the old man always thought of her as feminine and as something that gave or withheld great favours, and if she did wild or wicked things it was because she could not help them.’
— The old man and the sea (Ernest Hemingway)
I love this part of the book so I use it to inspire this artwork. This part reminds me to trust this world no matter what is happening to my life. Like.. I have to be kind and believe that this world is always by my side. So I wrote this part in the back of paper ..under the water. We have to pick in up so we can see.
