Selamat Datang

"Selamat Datang" is Malaysian language means "Hello; Welcom".

Selamat Datang - Highway Sign

On Malaysian highways, signs bearing the phrase “Selamat Datang” (“Welcome”) are a common sight. As an artist who has lived abroad for many years, Radio Woon always feels a deep sense of warmth and familiarity whenever he returns home and see these signs while driving along the highway.

Illustration Zine - Balik Kampung

The zine is talking about a road trip story in Malaysia based on the artist’s own travel experience.

In 2023, Radio Woon held his first solo exhibition in Kuala Lumpur called “Balik Kampung” (it means “returning home” in Malay). Before that Radio hadn’t been back to hometown for three years due to the Covid-19. The big changes of Malaysia made Radio felt like a stranger and he realized he needed a trip to get a better known of his country. After the exhibition, Radio and his wife hit the road for a 7-day self-drive tour, aiming to discover some unexplored spots. The journey wasn’t long, but it was packed and full of surprises and new discoveries.

Radio Woon is trying to express his finding and experience from the road trip in his own unique way - maker pen, illustrations and a zine.

This zine was home printed and hand binding with limited edition of 50 copies.

My Boring Moments (Acrylic on Canvas)

At the end of 2023, the artist created a series of acrylic paintings titled “My Boring Moments.” Each piece features a different character and posture, filling the canvas with a singular figure. Through this series, the artist explores and interprets the state of “boredom,” capturing its subtle nuances. This marks Radio Woon’s first focused and systematic body of work in acrylic on canvas.
Drawing inspiration from everyday life and childhood memories, the artist aims to connect with viewers through a deeply personal and introspective lens.

Kaiju Lepak (Acrylic on Skateboard)

Commissioned by A4A Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, this duo artwork was created for and showcased in the gallery’s opening exhibition. It was completed in late 2024.

LALA COMPANY HANDBOOK

“LALA COMPANY Handbook” is an illustration art book that created and self-published by
the illustration artist Radio Woon. LALA COMPANY is Radio’s illustration project. Through this
book, Radio was trying to present audience who is "LALA COMPANY”.

"COMPANY" in English not only means "enterprise" but also has the meanings of
"companion" or "partner." LALA COMPANY is a group that doesn't have fixed members, nor is
there a protagonist. They might be like-minded friends, possibly strangers who brush
shoulders, perhaps meeting each other because of shared interests, or simply gathering
together out of confusion and boredom. It doesn’t matter that whether they have names,
and their nationality or race is irrelevant. Ultimately, they are just a group of ordinary
people, virtual yet real.

This art book is LALA COMPANY's company manual, as well as a manifesto book for all its
members. Radio expresses the work, life, travel and living attitudes of LALA COMPANY
through illustrations and graffiti in this art book and trying to find connections with the
readers who might feel they are one of the group as well.

This art book includes 21 illustration art works, all in double page.

LALA COMPANY SECOND BOOK

Radio Woon insists on using markers as the primary tool for creation, continuously
producing a variety of quirky and expressive characters with simple black lines
and exaggerated features. Whenever inspiration strikes, Radio spontaneously
doodles on paper with pen in hand. He enjoys gathering his scattered creations
from daily work and compiling them into art books. In 2018, he self-published his
first art book titled "FIRST BOOK," which featured his works created between 2014
and 2018.

Continuing this creative habit, Radio has collected and organized his doodles
from the end of 2018 to January 2023, resulting in the completion of the "SECOND
BOOK" design. This brand-new art book comprises over 200 pieces of artwork
divided into five chapters. Through these works, the artist showcases his insights
into everyday life, documenting them with a unique sense of humor. Additionally,
Radio has selected four pieces of art works to be made into four posters, which
are randomly included as a gift with the book.

JALAN-JALAN

“JALAN-JALAN” is an art book co-created and published by LALA COMPANY and the independent publication “LOST".

The art book tells the story of a travel enthusiast's destinationless journey. He follows his heart and goes to places that are not marked on the map, encountering wonderful experiences and unexpected adventures along the way. For him, maintaining curiosity and exploring the unknown is the ultimate meaning of travel.

“JALAN-JALAN” aims to convey a travel philosophy, which is to break away from everyday life and experience the unfamiliar.

*”JALAN-JALAN" is a term in the Malay, meaning "take a walk" or " wander around."
