Formally trained in architecture, Bonaventura is a designer and visual artist. He graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Master of Architecture degree.

Bonaventura is keen on exploring the intersection between art and architecture. He believes that everyday life is a series rituals and moments and his work mostly explores the everyday through a cinematic lens.

While his architectural background taught him to be critical and methodical in observing reality, he believes art helps him manifest his thoughts with less boundaries and hopes to carve a space for himself in the art scene.

Lone Machine

In the cold quiet of a Sapporo train platform, a vending machine stands alone—unmoving, unchanging, yet never unnoticed. Everyday, it becomes a silent observer, a quiet witness to the ebb and flow of life.

It is not just a story of a vending machine, but also about what it represents: memory and the unnoticed details that anchor us.

Facing the Sun

There is a quiet poetry in the early hours of the day—a delicate transition between stillness and motion.

The artwork intends to capture the fleeting, often overlooked beauty of morning commutes in suburban Tokyo, as the sun gently meets the face of the commuters, transforming a routine activity into a sublime and cinematic experience.

Head in the Clouds

Gebogan—an elaborate offering of fruit, flowers, and rice, arranged in careful vertical harmony—is a prayer in form, a connection to the divine, a gesture of gratitude and balance in Bali.

Carried with strength and grace, it rises high above her, becoming almost a crown—a moving temple held aloft by a single person in motion.

People of Nusantara

People of Nusantara is a visual journey that celebrates the rich and varied tapestry of Indonesia, one of the most culturally diverse nations. It is a collage of 30 different
portraits done over 30 days. It is a homage to Indonesia, to display the striking array of ethnicities, traditions, and customs that define the archipelago.

Quiet Hour

In the stillness before the day begins, a market breathes softly. The artwork intends
to capture that fleeting, delicate moment when time seems to pause—just before the
rush, before the footsteps, before the noise.

Rush Hour

In the heart of at a traditional fish market in Hong Kong, rush hour unfolds like a choreographed symphony—a daily ritual of motion, noise, and urgency.

It is an organized chaos: crates slamming onto wet concrete, voices shouting over one another, fish glistening under flickering fluorescent lights, and the constant rhythm of hurried footsteps splashing through shallow puddles.

Stand Out Fit In

In the middle of a gamelan performance, amid the rhythmic unity of young boys seated in tight formation, one turns his head—his gaze meeting ours.

It is a subtle rebellion, a breath of individuality within a deeply collective ritual. In a tradition built on discipline, unity, and repetition, there is a quiet power of daring to break rhythm, if only for a moment.

In Preparation

Surrounded by vibrant red lanterns adorned with golden blessings, a man carefully prepares each light with focused care. His hands, steady and practiced, carry not just the weight of the lanterns but the spirit of tradition, community, and renewal. The red glow symbolizes luck and prosperity, while the calligraphy echoes wishes for joy, peace, and abundance in the coming year. In the stillness before the festivities, it reflects the beauty of preparation

Thread

Ulos is an exceptionally intricate fabric to create. Created by the Bataknese people of North Sumatra, each piece of Ulos carries deep meaning: a symbol of love, blessing and protection. Its creation is a labor of patience and devotion, often taking weeks of careful, rhythmic weaving

Rendered in earthy, natural tones, the artwork highlights the contrast between the softness of the thread and the strength of the hands that shape it.

Labour

This series is a tribute to the quiet resilience and dignity of labor—an ode to the strength found in everyday movements often overlooked. Each piece centers on a simple act of people carrying. Not just goods, but stories and memories—of early mornings, heavy loads, and the pride that comes with perseverance.
