This showcase also featured her senior project called ‘Oriental Synotype’ a term created by combining Original (referring to Eastern or Asian identity) and Synotype (from Synthetic + Stereotypes) meaning a human-made constructed image, in this case, an interpretation of East Asian identity from her perspective as an artist. This thesis project, consists of six acrylic paintings on canvas. Through humanoid robot characters, symbols of control and dehumanization, she explore East Asian female stereotypes. Despite their mechanized nature, these robots express emotions and gestures, revealing the beauty and narratives of women within each stereotype.

Loop

Inspired from stereotypes like the 'Tiger Mom', moms who push their kids super hard in school, music, sports, and other things society thinks are important. They want their kids to follow a strict path to success. But I wanted to show how it feels to be the kid stuck in that cycle, always trying to live up to their mom's expectations. It's like being trapped in a never-ending loop. The huge, empty space with things like books, a violin, a Rubik's cube, all the stuff you're forced to do. The flashing lights, like everything's chaotic and you can never just stop.

World of tiger

The 'Tiger Mom' is a stereotype of a strict mother who pushes her children to excel in academics and life for future success. Beneath her tough exterior lies deep care and maternal instinct. The imagery blends Chinese ink brush aesthetics, depicting the tiger (mother) as a mountain-like protector, with symbols of affection like flowers and dim sum, reflecting family culture. The color palette evokes tradition, mystery, and authority, mirroring this enduring archetype.

Miss Kung fu and friends

The Asian woman stereotype often portrays us as either gentle yet fragile or strong but cunningly vicious.
Inspired by this duality, I aimed to merge the positive aspects of both perspectives. I incorporated Chinese martial arts like kung fu as a symbol of resistance, challenging and dismantling these outdated stereotypes. The artwork also draws inspiration from both fictional characters and real-life figures, such as Japanese female wrestler Matsumoto Dump, Sailor Moon, and other magical girls who embody the concept of feminine strength fighting against evil. The dominant color in this piece is a vibrant pink, intentionally chosen to pair the softness traditionally associated with femininity with the dynamic postures of Eastern martial arts. This contrast reinforces the core theme: a celebration of Asian womanhood as both powerful and unapologetically resilient.

Dragon lady

This work is inspired by the 'Dragon Lady' stereotype, a seductive yet ruthless, domineering, and often sexualized image of women. I aimed to reinterpret this trope, revealing its hidden elegance, symbolized by the dragon's grace and softened by peonies. Paying tribute to Anna May Wong, I incorporated her iconic bangs and cinematic elements like film reels. Red, a powerful and auspicious color in Chinese culture, emphasizes the strength and beauty of Asian women.

Pearl

This artwork is a hyperfeminine type known as geisha/ lotus bloom/ China doll, being submissive and shy. I use 'Pearl' to symbolize that perspectives because a pearl is beautiful and charming gem but also delicate and fragile.

ON

An ABG (Asian Baby Girl) is a bold, stylish Asian girl who embraces Western fashion and makeup, adapting to her surroundings. She crafts a vibrant, exaggerated persona, like a character in a colorful, thrilling video game, standing out with tattoos, bubble tea, sports cars, and alcohol. To capture the fun, flashy vibe of this virtual world, I used ultra-bright neon colors for a striking, eye-catching effect.
