born.kk is a Bangkok-based illustrator who loves mixing pop culture and retro vibes into bold, chaotic, and colorful scenes. His playful lines and offbeat characters feel alive, loud, weird, and a little cheeky. With a good dose of humor and exaggeration, his work pokes fun at the strange, silly side of modern life.
This year, Born presented his thesis project, House of Doom, an exhibition exploring the concept of “hell” in Buddhism through a contemporary lens. The project reimagines the eight major hells within the environment of a house, allowing visitors to experience each punishment through different rooms. Methods of punishment and objects used align with each setting and the sins once committed, turning traditional Buddhist narratives into an engaging, immersive experience for a new generation.

Sañjīva (Kitchen)

Those who commit sins in this realm are tortured with countless sharp weapons until they die, over and over again.
Here, Sañjīva is reimagined as a kitchen. Torture weapons transform into kitchen tools, and the executioners become chefs who turn sinners into ingredients for a grand feast.

Kālasūtra (Garage)

Sinners here are marked with black lines and then sliced apart along these lines.
This realm is transformed into a garage. Executioners become carpenters, torture devices become workshop tools, and black marker lines replace the black thread, with hand saws and electric saws slicing through those who have sinned.

Saṃghāta (Living Room)

Those who commit sins are crushed under iron mountains until their bodies are completely shattered.
In this exhibition, it becomes a living room. The iron mountain is represented by a giant, overweight figure who crushes sinners under layers of fat until they are destroyed.

Raurava (Bed Room)

Sinners are bound and trapped in iron lotus flowers that release flames, engulfing their bodies in fire.
Here, it is reinterpreted as a bedroom. The iron lotus becomes an air conditioner that blasts flames instead of cold air, while the bed and blankets bind the sinners tightly.

Mahāraurava (Bathroom)

Similar to the previous realm, but the iron lotus here burns the sinners’ bodies until they are completely consumed.
It is reimagined as a bathroom. The iron lotus becomes a bathtub, and the water from the faucet turns into lava, submerging and burning the sinners within.

Tapana (BBQ area)

Sinners are impaled on large iron stakes while flames engulf their bodies, and hellhounds come to devour their flesh.
This realm becomes a backyard BBQ area. The BBQ grill impales sinners while flames roast them, and the house’s guard dog eagerly comes to feast on the roasted flesh.

Pratāpana (Backyard)

Sinners are forced to climb a mountain to escape flames, only to be blown down by hellish winds, falling onto iron spikes and burning in flames repeatedly.
Here, it is transformed into a sandbox playground in the backyard. The iron mountain becomes a sand mountain surrounded by sharp sticks and fire, while the executioners are reimagined as children who cruelly force the sinners to climb, fall, and suffer again and again.

Avīci (Collection Room)

Sinners are pinned and burned in various positions according to their karmic deeds, unable to move even an inch.
It is reimagined as a collection room in a grand mansion. Iron stakes become pins and insect-stuffing tools, while the executioner becomes a collector who stuffs and pins the bodies of sinners, adding them to his macabre collection.

House of Doom (Exhibition Logo Design)

an exhibition logo design for House of Doom was created using elements from torture devices and the internal organs of sinners, reflecting the dark essence of each realm in the exhibition’s graphic design.

Standee (Character Design)

A standee was designed for photo opportunities in the exhibition, featuring a character from Kālasūtra, reimagined as a carpenter executioner punishing wrongdoers.
